Exhibition throughout the week: TRIBUN - Studio PANK
Photo: Studio PANK
TRIBUN is a temporary art installation at Sergels torg inspired by the soapbox—a simple raised platform historically used for public speech, free expression, and civic participation. While the original speaker’s staircase is under renovation, TRIBUN fills the space with repeating modules that serve as podiums, meeting spots, and areas for rest, waiting, or observation.
The installation creates a shared space where people can see and be seen, meet, converse, and take their place. The boxes act as a democratic foundation—both literally and symbolically.
After the installation is dismantled and the original staircase returns, the individual “soapboxes” can be taken home and reused in new contexts.
Studio PANK, a transdisciplinary design collective, blends architecture, design, art, and landscape with social and ecological perspectives. The project is a collaboration between Studio PANK, På Sergels torg, and the Trafikkontoret.
Exhibition throughout the week: Family – For Better or Worse
Sven-Harrys Art Museum at the edge of Vasaparken in Stockholm is a golden house filled with art, design and fashion. An experience in both form and content. It is called the Gold House after its gold-clad façade, is designed by Wingårdh Arkitektkontor and is one of Stockholm’s landmarks. Here exhibitions are made that have become well-known for their way of reflecting and challenging both our surrounding world and ourselves. Innovative and engaging. At the very top of the house there is a meticulously built copy of the founder Sven-Harry Karlssons former home Ekholmsnäs on Lidingö. The 18th-century manor is rebuilt with detailed precision, furnished with one of the Nordic region’s largest private art collections where great names such as Carl Fredrik Hill, Edvard Munch, Ernst Josephson, Helene Schjerfbeck, August Strindberg, Gio Ponti and Märta Måås-Fjetterström are included. On the roof there is a unique terrace with a view over Stockholm and a sculpture park with works by artists such as Olle Baertling, Marja Leena Sillanpää, Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd and Lena Cronqvist.
In spring 2026, Sven-Harry’s Art Museum dedicates an exhibition to The Family – For Better and for Worse. It is an exhibition about the family, what it means, and how it shapes us. No one stands untouched by the influence of family, whether we have one or not. The exhibition explores family relationships in art—both as foundation and abyss, as a place of safety and as a constant zone of conflict. It shows how artists throughout history have worked with the family as a theme, from historical masters to major contemporary names, as well as a new generation of artists.
The Family – For Better and for Worse is initiated by Dragana Kusoffsky Maksimović, director of Sven-Harry’s Art Museum, and curated in collaboration with art historian Magnus af Petersens. “We are making this exhibition because family shapes us more than anything else. It leaves lifelong marks on our lives and has influenced art throughout history. Our hope is that visitors from different generations will be able to see their own stories reflected in the works and perhaps discover new art they can relate to. Family is the story none of us can choose to opt out of — for better and for worse. That is precisely why this exhibition is so important for all of us—because art, as one of the most fundamental forces sustaining society, can provide comfort and be healing, while also reflecting the experiences, relationships, and life stages that shape us,” says Dragana Kusoffsky Maksimović.
Artist talk - "A Journey into Art and Wildlife" with the Italian sculptor Davide Rivalta
Photo Edoardo Garis
Tuesday April 21st the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm hosts an artist talk with the title "A Journey into Art and Wildlife" with the Italian sculptor Davide Rivalta, on the occasion of his new large-scale outdoor exhibition "Blowing Figures Into Space", inaugurated in its first part at Mynttorget the same morning. Rivalta is internationally renowned for his monumental, naturalistic sculptures of wild animals – lions, wolves, rhinoceroses, buffaloes and horses – installed directly in public spaces without pedestals. Through this gesture, a subtle shift occurs: the animals appear as if they have temporarily reclaimed the urban environment.
The second part of the open-air exhibition in Stockholm, starting in late August 2026, will include another twelve animal sculptures installed in some of the city’s most symbolic and historically significant locations: Hagaparken and Norra Djurgården. The project is produced by the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Stockholm and C.M. Lerici Foundation. Partners of the project are the Royal Palace, The Royal Parks and the City of Stockholm.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm is an office of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dedicated to promoting Italian language and culture in Sweden. Each month the Institute offers a wide array of cultural events spanning from art exhibitions, concerts, panel discussions and book presentations, with the goal of showcasing a variety of cultural expressions to the Swedish public. The Italian Cultural Institute is situated on Gärdet in a building designed by architect Gio Ponti in 1958, a unique symbol of impeccably conservated Italian architecture and a museum of 1950’s design aesthetics.
Exhibition throughout the week: The Devil – A Life by Nick Cave
Photo Courtesy the Artist and Xavier Hufkens, Brussels
The Devil – A Life (2020-2024) by Nick Cave is a series of 17 glazed ceramic figurines that tell the story of the Devil from birth to death. Far from being a fearsome Antichrist, Cave's Devil is a human-like figure, who experiences life's ups and downs in a deeply relatable way. This work reflects Cave's fascination with religion as a source of creativity and deeper meaning.
As part of the exhibition at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Nick Cave's library is also presented, featuring around one hundred of Cave's favourite books. The books are personally selected for the exhibition in Stockholm and can be read on site or borrowed with a library card.

Throughout the week: SEART presents installation "SOL" by artist Ella Lundblad
During Stockholm Art Week, SEART will present artist Ella Lundblad´s site-specific installation titled "Sol¨ in the charming 18th-century belvedere / Lusthuset at Spökparken, right in the middle of the city.
Ella Lundblad (b. 1993) is a Stockholm-based non-binary artist working primarily in relief sculpture. Their practice focuses on ceramics as the main material, exploring the body as both a subject and a means of expression in sculptural relief. Lundblad's works are figurative and narrative, often engaging with emotions, memories, relationships, and the subtle power of touch, creating pieces that are intimate and deeply moving.
Lundblad studied at Nyckelviksskolan before continuing their education at Konstfack, where they completed a BA in the Ceramics and Glass program in 2022.
One Day at Kummelholmen #14
The respective practices of Jenny Magnusson and Patrik Elgström come together in the duo SKYMMER OCH SER (Obstructing and Seeing). Photography and sculpture meet in different spatialities in which the possibility of thinking in terms of space and making decisions together are investigated, guided by the materiality, the architecture, the limited format—space, time, and context. The photograph, with its format, flatness, cavity, and past tense. The sculpture, with its immediate materiality and presence. Archive and reuse are central to both practices—as a way of connecting with context, architecture, and existing materialities. Jenny works with site-specific sculpture and Patrik with photography, and for several years they have collaborated artistically through projects, teaching and exhibitions.
With a startingpoint in Jenny Magnusson's sculpture The unmoved mover ( a title taken from a concept advanced by Aristotle as a primary cause, or first uncaused cause) they engage with the spaces and cavities of Kummelholmen through photography, sculpture, movement and sound.
For this occasion, the duo invites sound artist Elize Arvefjord and choreographer Anna Öberg to activate the exhibition twice during the evening (17:00 and 19:00). Elize Arvefjord will explore the sonic aspects of the sculpture The Unmoved mover, and together with Anna Öberg investigate its inherent swing and rhythmic qualities.
Note: Tuesday 21 April, 15:00–20:00
Activation of the space at 17:00 and 19:00.

A celebration of IASPIS 30th Anniversary
Graphic design: Jonas Williamsson
Artist Dora García, curator and writer Maria Lind, and artist Jason Wee gather for an evening of presentations and conversation reflecting on the relations between artistic action, political histories, and the autonomy of cultural institutions.
García presents a lecture-performance developed from Guernica and its exhibition in Stockholm in 1956—an event that in many ways prefigured the founding of Moderna Museet before the institution was formally established. Through her timeline-based performative practice, García interweaves art history, political history, and civic struggles, examining how artworks and institutions are repeatedly activated around questions of autonomy, responsibility, and the public sphere.
Lind reflects on museums’ autonomy and responsibility, drawing on her long-standing work as curator, writer, and institutional director, including her experience leading Kin Museum of Contemporary Art in a region marked by extractivism and ongoing struggles for Indigenous rights.
Wee, recent resident at IASPIS and doctoral researcher at Goldsmiths, University of London, draws from his research on the Singapore Conference Hall and Trade Union House. His work reflects on the promises of collective life embedded in modernist architecture and on how institutional visions of the public can both enable and fracture forms of belonging.
The three presentations are followed by a conversation moderated by Corina Oprea and conclude with a reading of García’s timeline.
The event forms part of common acts for grounded futures, a programme initiated by IASPIS Guest Curator Corina Oprea as IASPIS marks its 30th anniversary. Bringing together artistic and curatorial practices attentive to the conditions shaping art today—embodied histories, shifting ecologies, and infrastructures of care and control—the series asks how exchange might be rooted in solidarity, reciprocity, and decolonial attention, opening space for new institutional imaginaries.
From its position as an international platform, IASPIS asks how exchange can be rooted in practices of solidarity, reciprocity, and decolonial attention that support sustained and meaningful encounters.

Diana Orving – Celestial Bodies - Artist-guided Tour and Breakfast (by invitation only)
Discover Millesgården – a place where art, history, and nature come together, just a short trip from central Stockholm. Created by the world-renowned sculptor Carl Milles and his wife, the artist Olga Milles, Millesgården offers a unique environment with a sculpture park, artist’s home, and a gallery hosting temporary exhibitions
Millesgården invites you to discover Diana Orving's exhibition Celestial Bodies, the first in the new series &Milles. During Stockholm Art Week, meet the artist Diana Orving for a guided tour of her exhibition in Carl and Olga Milles’ artists’ home at Millesgården.
In the exhibition Celestial Bodies, Diana Orving’s textile sculptures fill the Artist’s Home, where they come into contact with Carl Milles’s world of mythology and astronomy. In the Large Studio – where Milles’s figures seek to hover between heaven and earth – a dialogue opens up between different materials and expressions, between past and present. Just as Milles created works that reach for the sky, Orving’s sculptures occupy the room with a buoyancy that seems to defy gravity. ”… Everything in Orving’s work hovers, rising upwards as it defies gravity, like a dream of suspending death.” – Sara Stidsberg, excerpt from her exhibition text & Milles is a new exhibition series that places the total work of art Millesgården – bequeathed to the Swedish people in 1936 – in active dialogue with the present. Contemporary artists are invited to create site-specific installations in relation to the unique environment, where the Artist’s Home and the surrounding sculpture park can also serve as sources of inspiration. Breakfast will be served before the guided tour. Limited number of places. The guided tour is free of charge but requires registration. Please note that the entrance for this event is located at Carl Milles väg 2.

Cocktail with WAY Gallery & Gustaf Lilliestiernas "The Accretion of Sensibility"
During Stockholm Art Week, WAY gallery presents Gustaf Lilliestierna's exhibition The Accretion of Sensibility in collaboration with Sotheby's at Sturegatan 24. The presentation situates Lilliestierna's paintings within a new context during Art Week – a setting where different traditions of art, viewing, and collecting can intersect.
In spring 2025, the first part of Lilliestierna's trilogy was presented at WAY gallery on Upplandsgatan 57 in the exhibition The Erosion of Reason. There, the paintings revolved around the logic of the image and its resistance to unambiguous interpretation. The Accretion of Sensibility continues this investigation, shifting the emphasis from the ontology of the image to the experience of it.
The exhibition presents eleven paintings that evoke moments from the periphery of an unseen narrative. Suspended between suggestion and absence, the works hint at events that have already occurred or are about to unfold. Here, the image operates less as a fixed representation than as a psychological threshold – a space where atmosphere, memory, and emotional resonance slowly accumulate in the viewer's encounter with the work.
Gustaf Lilliestierna (b. 1992) lives and works in Stockholm. He holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BFA from Konstfack in Stockholm, and has also studied at Parsons School of Design in New York and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Lilliestierna has received grants from, among others, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, the Helge Ax:son Johnson Foundation, and the Kiruna Scholarship.

Schvung is a group of artists from the material-based programs at Konstfack, with the aim of promoting cross-disciplinary artistic collaborations. The initiative emerged from a desire to combine art, conversation, and music into a meeting place for artistic exploration.
The shared goal is to expose their practices and move across the boundaries between the different material approaches. In a cocktail of ceramics, glass, metal, and textiles - soft, hard, fragile, and sharp-Schvung takes shape in an eclectic mix of expressions drawn from the artists’ combined practices.
Exhibition Opening Night: Folia Aurum with Anna Berglund
Anna Berglund presents the exhibition Folia Aurum, her second solo exhibition at Galleri Glas. The series continues her exploration of ornament as a form-bearing principle in glass.
Anna Berglund (b. 1973) studied at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design (MFA in Ceramics and Glass, 2006). The same year, works by her were acquired for the collection of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. She has realised around twenty permanent public commissions in Sweden and recently completed an installation for Terminal 5 at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, including a large work in mould-blown glass and LED. Crown Jewels of Småland (2009) is permanently installed in the Council of the European Union building in Brussels.
Galleri Glas was started in 2017 by Anna Bromberg Sehlberg and Elin Forsberg. Right from the start our aim has been to create a focus on contemporary Swedish and international glass art. We wanted to bring new life to an art form with a proud tradition in our Swedish cultural heritage. The gallery soon established itself as a forum for meetings between artists and a knowledgeable public with an interest in unique objects. In recent years we have broadened our programme to embrace exhibitions of other forms of art including painting and photography, though glass art will continue to be our principal focus.

'Unmarked Space' a solo exhibition by Sofi Żezmer
Sofi Żezmer "Unmarked Space"
Sofi Żezmer examines how language and visible signs create meaning and shape our orientation in the world. The act of marking or naming defines what something is, how it is read and valued, and by whom. At the same time, it establishes belonging while also excluding. Unmarked Space refers to zones that resist fixed definitions and open up a field of possibilities where meaning has not yet been determined.
Żezmer’s work moves between abstraction and possible narrative interpretations. Through sculptures, installations, photographs and collage works on paper, she explores how shifting attention transforms information into new forms, often revealing the absurd and the surreal within everyday structures.
Sofi Żezmer (b. 1959, Łódź, Poland) studied in New York and has been based in Wiesbaden, Germany, since 1995. Her work has been presented internationally, including in Poznań, Warsaw, Malmö, Frankfurt am Main, Venice, Amsterdam, New York, San Francisco and Kanazawa.Candyland is a non-profit exhibition space run by nine people who take turns in inviting artists to exhibit. Candyland is located in south east Södermalm, a part of Stockholm where most of the artists’ initiatives in the city are located. Candyland was founded in February 2004.

Artist Talk: Filippa Arrias at Färgfabriken
Färgfabriken is a foundation and an exhibition space for contemporary art and architecture. We produce and showcase exhibitions in a former factory building in the old industrial area of Lövholmen, where we have operated since 1995. Färgfabriken is also a space for talks, workshops and other cultural activities. By working experimentally and across borders, bringing together different experiences and skills, Färgfabriken creates the conditions for new ideas, knowledge, and artistic creations.
As part of the ongoing group exhibition Taking Root, Fargfabriken is hosting an artist talk with Filippa Arrias (b. 1971, Gothenburg), exclusive for Stockholm Art Week. Filippa Arrias (b. 1971) works mainly with painting and collage, through which she explores how we perceive time and memory. Arrias mixes documented stories, including archival photographs, with personal images and narratives. She moves between different media and layers of materiality, time, and memory processes. Taking Root is a group exhibition that weaves together questions about soil, migration, displacement, places, and cultivation in various ways. The exhibition ties in with how we humans take care of the earth. Through contemporary artistic practices, it explores how people, plants, ideas, and cultures take root—in the earth, in memory, in language, and in new territories.

Moderna Museet. Anna Casparsson. The Isle of Bliss.
During Stockholm Art Week, the Moderna Museet welcomes visitors for the opening of Anna Casparssons’ exhibition The Isle of Bliss.
During the opening, admissions are free of charge.
Grand palm trees and weeping birches, castle towers adorned with pearls, princes and princesses. For the first time since 1960, Anna Casparsson's art is shown in a solo exhibition at Moderna Museet. With small stitches, Anna Casparsson embroidered magnificent motifs inspired by classic fairy tales, biblical stories and musical works. Landscape scenes became textile paintings and folding screens alongside her free compositions on grand piano covers, bags and tablecloths.
Anna Casparsson (1861–1961) was an artist, pianist and translator. Her work is characterised by opulence, attention to detail and a joy for storytelling, and developed in her home in Saltsjöbaden outside Stockholm – an important meeting place for cultural figures in the first half of the 20th century. Despite her strong presence in an artistic and intellectual environment, Casparsson has remained relatively overlooked in Swedish art history.
In the autumn, "The Isle of Bliss" will also be shown at Moderna Museet Malmö, opening on 24 October 2026.Moderna Museet is one of Europe's leading museums for modern and contemporary art. We collect, preserve, share and exhibit modern art from the early 20th century and photography from 1840 and onwards.

Join a morning gallery tour! During Stockholm Art Week, the Stockholm galleries Antics Gallery, Andréhn-Schiptjenko, Carling Dalenson, Saskia Neuman Gallery, STANCE Gallery, ( ), and Larsen Warner invite guests to enjoy art and breakfast on the morning of Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 to 12:00.
Joshua Raz. is a contemporary painter whose work explores the tension between gesture and perception through landscapes that feel both deeply familiar and psychologically unstable. Working in thin layers of diluted oil paint, he allows scenes to slowly emerge from amorphous fields of color where figures and environments drift in and out of focus, inviting viewers to project their own memories, associations, and imagined narratives onto the paintings. Raz's growing international recognition was underscored during The Armory Show, where his booth with Roncini Gallery drew notable attention and was highlighted by Artsy as one of the fair's standout presentations.
During the same week, we will also present a solo booth by Katherine Bradford at Market Art Fair, as well as a solo presentation of Iria Leino at Brussels Art Fair, where we have been specially invited to exhibit her work.
LARSEN / WARNER has been home to innovative, singular, and pioneering exhibitions across a variety of media and genres over the past 30 years. Active in both the primary and secondary markets, Larsen Warner presents a dynamic exhibition programme of both emerging and established artists from Scandinavia as well as a strong focus on presenting influential and important international artists to a Swedish audience.

Vibrant Matter brings together artists whose practices treat material not as a passive surface, but as an active, responsive presence. Bringing together practices that span painting and sculptural approaches to surface, the exhibition explores how substances stain, resist, accumulate, and mutate, carrying traces of touch, time, and memory.

Saskia Neuman (Founder Saskia Neuman Gallery)
Professor Jonathan White (Professor of Politics, European Institute, London School of Economics)
Karin Svanborg-Sjövall (State Secretary to Minister of Culture)
Have Western democracies become trapped in endless debates over political correctness and emotion-driven moral management? Have postmodern ideas of cultural relativism undermined Europe's institutions, or has the role of culture increasingly fallen into the hands of American social media and streaming platforms? How are cultural institutions and artistic works affected by the rise of populism? And can culture and art even inadvertently strengthen the appeal of authoritarianism?
Together with the Stockholm School of Economics' Centre for Philosophies of Markets and SSE Art Initiative, we invite you to a symposium exploring the cultural and political consequences of contemporary authoritarianism and populism.

Market Art Fair Talk: Värdet av konst - för hjärnan, samhället och livet
Market Art Fair 2025. Jean Lapin.
Karolina Modig & Erik Modig
Culture journalist Karolina Modig and Stockholm School of Business and Economics researcher Erik Modig discuss their book Värdet av konst - för hjärnan, samhället och livet, which brings together studies on how art affects us as individuals and the society we live in. Drawing on research from diverse fields such as psychology, neuroaesthetics, economics, art history, and philosophy, the authors describe the concrete impact that art and culture have on our brains, in small communities, in companies, for children and the elderly, and within education, healthcare, and social care. They also explore the difference between the intrinsic values of art and its effects, and how this fundamentally shapes the way we should approach the measurement of art and culture.

the big tiny exhibition, Unifrom™ and Heirloom
the big tiny exhibition bridges art and community by showcasing 100 original drawings by kids and inviting young expressionist (kids in ages 0–10) to join in making a collective artwork through a live, interactive performance. By elevating children’s drawings to gallery status, the exhibition blurs the line between professional art and playful expression, questioning what art can be and who gets to be called an artist.
The space will be filled with color and imagination, as kids’ drawings transform the venue into a vibrant mini-gallery. Throughout the event, every tiny artist are welcome to draw, paint, and co-create a giant communal piece, letting the exhibition grow in real time. It’s a space where creativity literally runs free and the line between audience and artist joyfully disappears. 'the big tiny exhibition' is a collaborative art event presented by Unifrom™, the award-winning swedish fragrance house, and heirloom, a curated vintage store for children.
The initiative was born from Unifrom™ and Heirloom’s shared values of creativity, sustainability, and community, along with a joint mission to challenge traditional norms in both art and fashion.
Unifrom™ and Heirloom is two seperated entities that will join forces for ‘the big tiny exhibition 2025'. Unifrom™ is a plattform pushing creativity in the field of scents. Heirloom is curated shop vintage for kids & toddlers.

Riddarfjärden Vocal Ensemble performs “Let the Light Shine in the Darkness”
We need to rest in the darkness of the night and draw energy from the daylight. The soothing darkness, undisturbed by destructive forces, serves as the foundation for the life-giving light. This theme is reflected in the music and lyrics performed, inspired by Erik Blomberg's poem "Do not be afraid of the darkness, for the light rests there," with music composed by Karin Rehnqvist. The singers, alternating between full choir, men's voices, and women's voices, move throughout the art exhibition in light mantels over black clothing. The light contains the entire color spectrum, which is reflected in the colors of the mantles. The colors and titles of the mantles are linked to chakra philosophy, with specific energies and colors placed at different positions in the body. The choir singer's vocal range corresponds to the position of the chakra that the singer's mantle symbolizes. The person with the lowest voice part wears the mantle representing the lowest chakra. These mantles symbolize good values and serve as shields against a lack of imagination. The concept of good values spans the entire philosophical history of humanity, from Confucius and Aristotle to the present day. It represents a shared foundation of values that is meant to grow in luminous strength.

Artist and professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti. His work is marked by a strong tendency toward deformation – as an expression of the physical and mental decay of the human body. In the piece Twelve Years Ago New Year’s Feast, he portrays an emotional collapse: a breakdown under an immaterial weight so overwhelming that the body deforms and is crushed. It is a visual testimony to the tragic and ironic state of being human.

Artist presentation at Market Art Fair: Bella Rune and Alejandro Sintura
Galleri Magnus Karlsson was founded in 1990, located for the first 7 years in Västerås, 100 km west of Stockholm. It gradually gained a reputation as one of the most interesting contemporary galleries in Sweden, moving to Stockholm in 1997. The focus of the gallery has been to present emerging artists from Sweden and establish long term relations and representations. The gallery is located on the ground floor of The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts on Fredsgatan 12.
Bella Rune and Alejandro Sintura will present their works in our booth at Market Art Fair on Saturday 17.5 at 4 PM
At Market Art Fair 2025 we are delighted to present a two person show with artists Bella Rune (Sweden, b. 1971) and Alejandro Sintura (Colombia, b. 2000). Although we see it as two solo presentations, we are interested in the meeting and collision of these very different artistic practices. Bella Rune’s three-dimensional sculptures occupying the space and Alejandro Sintura’s paintings installed on the surrounding walls. Both artists will show new works made for the fair.
In the installation, they approach each other in a curious dialogue. It is exciting to let two artists from different generations and cultures meet to explore differences and similarities in language and content. There is a point of contact in the use of colour, materiality and the relationship with tactility and abstraction. In their work you can also find common ideas about how the everyday and humble can be transformed into something important and monumental.
At the fair we also present a site-specific textile assemblage by Petra Lindholm at Market Extended. The work is on display in the staircase of the Liljevalchs+ building. Petra Lindholm’s assemblages can initially be perceived as paintings, but are in fact made of textiles. She uses thin fabrics in different colours, that are applied in several layers with glue on panels. Lindholm strives for an existence where she embraces the random and spontaneity that arises in the process. The images grow organically as she adds new layers and physically processes the surfaces with her hand and knife. In the new work for Market Extended she has worked with a landscape motif, but she also has given the abstract and physical qualities more free rein.
