Project Hugo
2025.05.14 – 2025.07.26
A year ago, late one evening at JUS, Robert Berggren showed his friend Jesper Dahl an upcoming design element for his new project Core RD Knitting Co; an iron-on patch depicting Robert's beloved dog Hugo, who is no longer alive.
Hugo was Berggren's beloved dog and companion, and the basis of this project is to let art make the private memory of a beloved animal into something big, public, and through art, eternal.
Something as private as grief and the relationship to a beloved pet, may become bigger and more open than we are used to. In twenty years, the pictures of Hugo will still be there, maybe with friends, maybe with strangers, and in a heightened form and context.
Hugo was a unique character. From the first time Berggren jumped into the passenger seat to drive towards his newfound life, to the last time he retrieved a rock as big as his head from the bottom of a stream. The breeder would not have thought of letting Hugo live if Berggren had not taken him with him that day.
Over twenty years ago, Hugo was immortalized in a portrait by Peter Farago during the time the fashion brand Pour existed. The photo then became an iron-on patch made in Varberg. They were forgotten in Berggren's large archive, only to be rediscovered some time ago when Core was created.
Like the activities Berggren has been involved in, we want to gather talented artists, creators and friends to create based on that material and the memory of Hugo. Works that stem from another work, from private to public.
All participants receive patches that they can then interpret freely with and from the outside, completely in line with what they themselves are prepared to do, and usually do. A creative process that carries the memory forward.
