During Stockholm Art Week, Galleri Helle Knudsen presents Björn Camenius third solo exhibition at the gallery, Transitions. The exhibition focuses on the process of creating and breaking down. The paintings are made up of layers that capture experiences, memories, and observations. They go through a dynamic change, similar to cycles in nature. The images shift between abstract and realistic forms, influenced by chance, making the final result unpredictable.
Quick brushstrokes, like short statements, are layered on top of each other, creating a sense of accumulated time within the painting, giving it its own story. The artist tries to capture perception and experience in their fleeting forms. Starting from pho tos, memories, and observations, the works take inspiration from the outside world but grow into something that references itself. Each piece undergoes a dynamic process of creating and dissolving —a reflection of nature's cycles, where things constantly break down and reshape. The images are in motion, shifting between abstract and realistic, between planning and chance. The paintings go through a process where the initial stages are often discarded, making the end result difficult to predict. There’s a kind of intense interaction between making and destroying, exploring contrasts from the restrained to the expressive.
