Matthias Garcia's first exhibition at Gerdman Gallery brings together paintings made between 2024 and 2026, exploring the tension between inner feeling and the external world of spring. Inspired by the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, Garcia's figures - silhouette-like and quietly mysterious - inhabit fluid, atmospheric spaces. The works draw on themes of sensitivity, imagination, and the masks we wear. Together they suggest that spring, for all its beauty, does not arrive the same way for everyone.
